Sculpture # 51 “Black and White Tornado”, 2025. ($3200 USD)
I wanted a project where I was taping and painting a pattern in a tunnel of a cube like block of stone. For the painting I wanted three distinct patterns with the pieces of each pattern joined in some way. This was a free form design, with each piece of each pattern spontaneously designed, positioned, taped and painted as the pattern evolved. In the 5 inch tunnel the patterns follow a 120 degree right-handed spiral with the surface of the entry point into the tunnel different than the exit surface point. Each pattern then created a right-handed spiral on the external surfaces to complete an abstract circle around the block and through the tunnel. There are a total of 47 individual pattern pieces for the entire sculpture surface. The sculpture can be placed on a flat surface or on the entry/exit holes and on a lazy susie for more complete viewing. There is no preference as to how it is placed—the lucky owner decides!! When possible this piece will be pinned on one of the corners into a black basalt block.
